SPIRIT OF 76 MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP
"Live by Faith, One Day at a Time"

INTRODUCTION
These words embody the personal philosophy of the late Jonathan Miller, a member of the Lewiston-PorterHigh School Class of 2010, who was known by his family and friends for his strong faith and the happiness and peace that he achieved by living for the day and moment. Many described Jonathan, or J-Mill as he was affectionately known, as having the heart of a giant and smile of an angel, touching those he knew and loved as well as strangers, Jonathan accepted everyone and had a gift of making each person feel as if they were his best friend. Jonathan consistently displayed kindness, courage and a zest for life. He knew how to face struggles with a light heart and turn challenges into successes. Described as reliable, flexible, and always there with a smile and kind word, Jonathan's tremendous work ethic earned him the highest respect. Inspired by the life and work of St. Vincent de Paul, Jonathan loved where love was needed, helped anyone who called him, never saying no....nothing was too much if it meant helping someone else.
The Spirit of 76 Memorial Scholarship was established by Jonathan's family to honor Jonathan's character of kindness, love, courage, strength, compassion and perseverance, and will be used to financially assist another high school senior who demonstrates a commitment to the ideals by which Jonathan lived. They hope to keep Jonathan's memory alive and assist a deserving student achieve his/her academic goals.
SCHOLARSHIP ELIGIBILITY
• Student must be nominated by someone who can provide evidence of applicant's character, values, and personal qualities and that helshe demonstrates a commitment to the ideals by which Jonathan lived.
• Scholarship nominee must be a graduating senior of Lewiston-Porter class of the current year and planning to enroll as a full-time matriculated student at a two or four year college in the fall. Preference will be given to a student planning to major in Criminal Justice as Jonathan was planning to do.
• Nominee must demonstrate that he/she possesses the fine qualities that Jonathan Miller consistently displayed in his life by writing a statement describing who they are and how they have demonstrated Jonathan's character of kindness, love, courage, strength, compassion and perseverance in their life.
Please note: student will be notified by the Lewiston-Porter High School Guidance Office of their nomination and required essay.
APPLICATION PROCEDURE
• Completed Scholarship Applications must be submitted by nominator to the Lewiston-Porter High School Guidance Office no later than the fourth week of April.
• The completed application must contain:
- The Completed Application Form (Contact Information).
- Nominator's Letter of Recommendation that provides evidence that the applicant's character, values, and personal qualities demonstrate a commitment to the ideals by which Jonathan lived.Please provide examples/anecdotes of his/her manifestation of these qualities.
SELECTION OF RECIPIENT
The $1076 Jonathan Miller Spirit of 76 Memorial Scholarship will be presented at the Lewiston-Porter High School Senior Recognition Night.

Please include information about the student's character, values, personal qualities, achievements, and activities that demonstrates his/her commitment to the ideals by which Jonathan lived. Please provide specific examples/anecdotes of his/her manifestation of these qualities that will give us insight into his/her similarity to Jonathan.
